Alex is getting itchy for the water. For the past two days he’s been going on about swimming. I tried to explain to him that the water was too cold for swimming right now, but he just wouldn’t accept it. So, I told him, “okay”, knowing he wouldn’t be in the water very long (if he got in at all). Anyway, this is as far as he got, but he still wouldn’t concede the water was too cold. I guess Dad still doesn’t know what he’s talking about. 😉

Heading home to Florida for Spring Break with the family. It started snowing before I left Virginia. By the time I reached the North Carolina state line, visibility was greatly diminished and progress had slowed to a crawl. So much so, that it took me almost 5 hours to get through the state! My truck was covered in snow and ice when I got to South Carolina, but by the time I crossed the Georgia line, it was clean!

What a whacky ride!

Driving in Snow

Well who’da thought the boys would be snow-sledding in Florida? Here we are at the Durbin Creek Winter Festival and the event highlight is a slide covered in snow! Of course, it’s man-made snow, but as long as the temps are in the 60s, I’m perfectly okay with that!

The boys were anxious to get on the slide…well, I guess I should say, “boy”…Adam took to it right away, but Alex required a little contemplation before he was comfortable with the whole idea. But once he was ready, there was no stopping either of them!

Adam and Alex Climb Getting ready

They’d climb the stairs and zip down the slide, pick-up their sled, and run back up the stairs. There was one boy that was taking his sweet time getting up the stairs, so A^2 would bypass him each-and-every-time (to the chagrin of the kid’s parents and my secret enjoyment :-))

It was a piece of cake!

Piece of cake!

Eventually, they boys grew tired of the snow slide, as evidenced by the boredom on Alex’s face…

Alex is Bored

So, we transitioned to the Hamster balls. The boys thought this was the coolest thing and were very excited to ride! Adam jumped right in and took off across the field!

Alex, on the other hand, jettisoned himself from the ball no sooner than he had climbed in! He wanted nothing else to do with it, and no amount of coaxing was going to change his mind!

Alex Exits the Ball

We wrapped up the day with a relaxing train ride around the field.

What a day!

Adam and Mama had a special day together ice skating! Adam had a blast, and was surprisingly good on the ice. It’s rumored that mama busted her butt a couple of times, but there’s no photographic evidence to support that assertion. 😉

It’s January in PA, so that likely means snow. Snow means shoveling, which is my least favorite activity after painting the house and hanging pictures on the wall.

Daddy Shoveling

Fortunately, I have a couple of helpers, although their pseudo snow-blowers don’t do much more than move the snow around…

But they have their “work faces” on, so it’s all good!

Adam Alex

After what seemed like forever, the driveway is cleared and it’s time to play in the snow. Adam was into making snow angels…

Alex, however, had long since retired to the warmth of house (he’s obviously a lot smarter than the rest of us!)

Alex Inside

It’s nice to venture outside again as the cold, windy, wetness of the past couple of months gives way to increasing warmth and sunshine. Unfortunately, the ground is still pretty damp due to the recent rainfall (not to mention the melting snow), so Cindy takes the boys for a walk around the block. Naturally, when one goes for a walk, it’s good and proper to push a lawnmower.

All goes well until Alex decides to backtrack…

After more than a month of gloomy, gray, overcast days and cold, snowy, winter weather, God paints a beautiful sunset across the warming Pennsylvania sky…

Okay, so I’m not complaining about the snow anymore!

I’ll take snow any day over ice and freezing rain!! This morning the driveway was pretty much a sheet of ice:

Ice Storm Ice Storm

and my truck was literally encased in it:

Ice Storm Ice Storm

Fortunately, the world famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, did NOT see his shadow this morning, which means we’re going to have an early Spring!

And statistically speaking, Phil has been right about 50% of the time, so you couldn’t do any better if you flipped a coin! 😉

it’s still cold here!

whereas the sun breaking through the clouds paints the winter sky with a warm glow.

It’s the perfect time to shovel the driveway, which is of course, one of my favorite activities…ever! [ insert eye-roll here ]

Fortunately, Adam is coming down the drive to help me, although I don’t know how much help he’ll be without a shovel.

Shoveling the drive

Alex is not a big fan of the cold (much like his dad), preferring a practically snowless covered porch to the blanket of powdered water that is our front yard!

Adam doesn’t like his mittens, but he doesn’t like the chill on his fingers more!

Alex says bugger the chill because the only way to pick up a piece of ice is with a mitten-less hand…
