To kick-off the new year, the boys’ Godfather, Chris, and I took the boys on a road trip to visit the Daytona International Raceway Museum.

Dale at Daytona

While we were waiting for our tour to begin, we looked around the museum a bit and these clowns in front of the cut-away “Drive Petty” car…

The tour was pretty comprehensive and took us all around the track and down pit road…

We stopped for a bit at the start-finish line and walked up the 18-percent grade track for a photo-op…

Dad and Boys

Back aboard the tram, I got a quick picture of the new Grand Stand as we headed to the garage area and Victory Lane!

Grand Stand

In the garage area, we visited the auditorium where the drivers receive their safety briefing prior to the race. They played the safety briefing for us, which was interesting, but even more interesting were the photos on the wall depicting some Daytona history. Like this one of Donny Allison in front of the Wood Brothers #21 Mercury Cyclone (even from across the room, I can pick-out my racing team!)…

Then it was on to Victory Lane…

We had a blast!

…and we’re visiting once again with the boys’ Godparents, Chris and Sherrie. They’re here from Virginia to enjoy the warm Florida Christmas and I can’t say I blame them. This afternoon, the boys enjoyed some time in the pool with their “Godbrother”, Chase, and this evening the grown-ups drank a little beer and grilled-out some steaks…

After dinner, we headed down the road to the St Augustine Beach Pier to enjoy the New Year’s Eve fireworks…

We had a great time, and on the way home there were a couple of very tired little boys that looked like this…

Bad Boys

Today the boys and I met-up with their Godfather for a visit to the Old Fort in St Augustine. He has a son who is just a little older than A2, and they’re the best of friends. All three boys had a great time exploring the rooms around the fort’s lower level, and Alex especially enjoyed peering over the bastion walls on top…

This never gets old! And what a beautiful day!!

Getting ready for the big feast today with friends and family. First, we’re converting the Big Green Egg into a blast furnace to superheat the coals for the Thanksgiving turkey! (don’t tell Cindy, but I needed to use her blow-dryer)…

Big Green Egg Blast Furnace

Dinner is about done, and as with all large family gatherings, the kids enjoy each others company at their very own table…

I’m the last to fix his plate…

Fixing My Plate

We almost didn’t have enough room at the dining room table…actually, we didn’t have enough room, which is why the kids had their own table!

Spending a couple of days with my good friend (and the boys Godfather), Chris. It’s nice to carry-on the tradition of “the offsite” that we started in the USAF!

I hereby call this meeting of the Command Barstool Association to order…

This year we spent our Thanksgiving holiday with the boys’ Godfamily, Chris, Sherrie, and their little boy Chase (a.k.a. Billy the Kid). We took-off Wednesday afternoon for the 4-hour drive south.

The dinner was fantastic and much, much more was available than we could possibly eat. We’re going to spend another day here before we head back up to PA.

It was great to see our friends again and the boys (dubbed “The Angry Men” by Chase) had a blast playing with their “Godbrother,” Billy the Kid…
