Dad: You know, Adam looks like a famous celebrity!

Mom: Really? Who?

Dad: The Little Drummer Boy!

Mom: So, you’re saying our son looks like a cartoon?

Dad: Technically, the Little Drummer Boy is a puppet.

Dad: Well, he does look like him don’tcha think?

Little Drummer Boy Adam

Dad: …ya know, Alex looks like a famous celebrity, too…

Mom: *rolls eyes* Really? Who?

Dad: The Mighty Favog!

Mom: Who?!?

Dad: The Mighty Favog is the living deity in the Land of Gorch!

Mom: What?!?

Dad: From Saturday Night Live! The Land of Gorch was a recurring sketch featuring Jim Henson’s Muppets…

Mom: So, you think both Alex and Adam have puppet-faces…

Dad:: No, only Adam looks like a puppet, Alex looks like a Muppet.

Mom: *shakes head* I feel so sorry for our kids.

Dad: Hey, it is what it is…

Today Alex paid a visit to Radiology for an ultrasound of his hips. Since he was in a breech position at the time of delivery, his pediatrician wanted to rule out DDH (developmental dysplasia of the hip). Evidently, the breech position has a tendency to force the ball of the hip out of the socket, predisposing to dislocation after birth. The highest risk is the frank breech position with the hips flexed and the knees extended (i.e. feet up by the shoulders)–Alex was not in this position.

Since DDH is a developmental or ongoing process, it is not always detectable at birth. So, Alex will have a hip exam each time he visits the pediatrician. As the months pass, the likelihood of a DDH manifestation diminishes.

Anyway, so far, so good!

This would be Adam…

Neil Diamond is singing “Song Sung Blue” during a 1976 concert in Australia playing on DVD.  I’m “on shift” and Cindy is sleeping; Adam is asleep in the Pack ‘n Play in front of me (he’s the noisiest sleeper; I’ve never heard so many grunts, squeaks, sighs and peeps); and I can hear Alex on the baby monitor stirring in his crib (it’s just about time for him to get up and eat).

I’m sipping on a cup of coffee as I sit in this glider rocker with my laptop and peck on the keys.  Moments like this are rare these days and I’m enjoying the relative quiet.  Adam was a little fussy this evening, I think he had a bit of a belly ache, but he’s resting pretty peacefully now.  Alex, on the other hand, was just being a butt.  He didn’t want anything except to be held, and that includes sleep, which he resisted with all the might his little body could muster.  He finally succumbed to fatigue and literally passed-out in my arms.

Well, sure, if they’re sleeping…otherwise, not quite so much… 😉

Well, we hired a nanny; her name is Hannah and she started work yesterday. She’s good with the kids and Cindy really likes her. Hannah will spend a few hours a day helping Cindy with the boys, and caring for them when mom needs a nap…

She’s also interested in babysitting when mom and dad need a night out!  🙂

There’s nothing like the brisk winter air and a mommy’s warmth…

Phoebe Figalilly We’ve been looking for a nanny to help Cindy out for a few hours a day. Of course, she’d have to meet the “nanny standard” which is, of course, embodied by the famous Phoebe Figalilly (of T.V.’s Nanny and the Professor [pictured]). With that in mind, we first responded to a nanny’s ad in the neighborhood, arranged a date/time for an interview, but less than two-hours before the interview, she called an canceled. Thinking she probably wasn’t as dependable as we’d like, we took our search elsewhere. We looked at several placement services and settled on the Gulf Coast Nanny Connection. So, we completed the application, paid the deposit and already have a prospective nanny. She looks good on paper and comes with a great recommendation; she’s also an EMT. We’ve scheduled an interview for Monday afternoon.

More to come…

Mom had a doctor’s appointment today and packed-up the boys for the trip. Here they are outside the doctor’s office…the boys stylin’ in the Cadillac of Strollers (a gift from Cindy’s “Bunco” group).
