After 24 years in the Air Force and 3 years of retirement, we’ve finally come home. The movers arrive tomorrow and we’ll be setting-up our new home. Of course, I’ll continue to work in Virginia, so will be doing a bit of traveling up-and-down I-95. But the timing is right for the move, and will be best for the family in the long-run. And it’s not like Cindy and I haven’t done the “hard-time” before with deployments and unaccompanied tours in the Air Force.

Anyway, it’s great to once again be a Florida resident!

Welcome to Florida

New Home

We’ve spent the last three days moving from the townhome to our new house. It’s not as bad as it sounds: On day one, I hired movers to take care of all the heavy stuff, so we had the new house essentially set-up and livable on the first day. On day two, I rented a U-Haul and hired some muscle to load and unload the boxes that we’d previously packed. One day three, me and dad cleaned the townhouse and loaded the remaining odds-and-ends into the truck and, as the song goes, we “moved to Beverly…”

Cindy and the boys visited with mom and the rest of the family, while me and my dad continued on to Pennsylvania to meet the movers. The movers arrived on Wednesday and unloaded the truck, while dad and I began unpacking. Cindy, mom and the boys came up yesterday. Now, the bulk of the packing is finished, but we’ll be spending the next couple of weeks finishing-up.

Here’re a couple of pictures of the boys visit with the family in Virginia…

On September 25, I packed up a 6′ x 12′ U-Haul, and left behind my lovely wife and wonderful little boys to begin our move to Pennsylvania. I accepted a position with a hospital there and stated work on September 28. I spent the week in meetings, and in my spare time looked for a new home for the family. Cindy and I figured we’d rent something for a year while we get to know the area, and then look to buying. After passing on some disappointing houses, I happened upon this lovely townhouse. It actually has more square footage than the house we live in now, and is in a great neighborhood.

New House

So, today, I pulled the stuff out of the storage unit I had rented the day I arrived, packed-up another 6′ x 12′ U-Haul trailer, and moved into the townhouse. I basically packed one complete bedroom, my clothes, and some kitchen supplies, so that should I find a place, I could move in and save on the hotel bill.

Cindy and the boys will be joining me next month. I’ll be returning to Mississippi the first week in November to pack-up the house, and make a second trip to PA–only this time, I won’t be alone, and my house will soon be a home.
