It’s hard to believe the twins are 9-years-old! I can remember the day they were born as if it were yesterday! Cindy’s blood-pressure shot up the day before and it wouldn’t go down, so Dr. Christy scheduled the c-section for early the next morning. The procedure was quick and by early afternoon the boys were whisked off to the neonatal ICU (in a different hospital) as a precaution. Cindy only got to see them briefly before they were loaded in the ambulance for the trip across town. After about 24-hours both boys were thriving and we got to bring them home soon after. Then we didn’t sleep for a year! 😛

We sleep a lot better now, of course, and the boys are a lot of fun. Their birthday this year was a simple affair, with a few friends joining them yesterday afternoon at Rebounders, then coming to the house for pizza and cake…

As usual, they each get a cake…

This morning, they awoke to their presents, which featured a home-made toy train from “Poppy”…

and each was hauling 9 gold dollar coins…

And if that wasn’t enough, Mom and Dad got ’em brand new iPads…

All-in-all, not a bad birthday. I guess turning 9 is pretty great! When I turned 9, I think I got a toy Thompson sub-machine gun and a Partridge Family album. I shoulda put the Partridge Family on their iPads!

Mattel Electronic Football When I was a kid, well, a teenager, Mattel Electronics came out with this handheld football game. The players were represented by these little red lighted hash-marks; the football was this little flicking light that zipped across the screen when the ball was passed. I thought it was AWESOME! This one pictured on the left was a one-player game, so you played against the computer (laughable by today’s standards), but the following year Mattel produced a two-player game, so you could match your wits against a living, breathing opponent. My brother and I, and our friends, spent many, many hours playing this game. Well, I imagine kids today, especially A2, wouldn’t think very much of it. After, all they can Madden Football on their iPads, which pretty much relegates this little Mattel game to my nostalgia…

Well, they just don’t know what they’re missing.

Yesterday, the boys and I traveled to Virginia with Nana and Pa to spend a few days with the extended family. Funny, but judging from the boys behavior, it’s hard to see any difference. BTW, that’s Nana’s couch…

Alex fell asleep this afternoon while playing on the iPad. He’s been on it so long today, I can only guess what he’s dreaming about…

Angry Birds I’m sure by now that everyone has heard of the video game, “Angry Birds.” If you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years, here’s the low-down: Angry Birds was created by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Entertainment. The initial version of the game was released on iOS in December 2009, and since then millions of copies of have been purchased for touchscreen-based smartphones.

Anyway, in the game, players use a slingshot to launch birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying all the pigs on the playing field. As players advance through the game, new types of birds become available, some with special abilities that can be activated by the player.

AND ALEX LOVES THIS GAME! He’s very good at it, too, and has completed several “chapters.” I really don’t mind if he plays this game, as it actually incorporates basic physics principles such as, motion and trajectory, force, kinetic energy, and gravity and weight.

Little Alex seems to have an inherent understanding of these concepts, which is something many adults can’t seem to grasp!
