Boating season has officially started! Today, the boys and I took Charlie out on the water for a few hours…

On the boat

It seems like it’s been forever since we’ve felt the wind and spray in our face…especially Alex!

On the boat

It was GREAT just being outside! It got a little cloudy and we got a few sprinkles, but that didn’t put a damper on our fun!

On the way back to the marina, Adam took the wheel for a bit…

What better way to round-out a perfect weekend than to take a boat to dinner…

Going to Clarke's Going to Clarke's

This is Clarke’s Fish Camp on Julington Creek. It’s one of our favorite places to go for seafood.

Going to Clarke's

And judging from the number of boats here already, we’re not the only one’s who enjoy this secluded hideaway…

Going to Clarke's

Inside the restaurant, there’s stuffed animals EVERYWHERE! Lions, Tigers, Bears, Zebras, Apes, and this Giraffe right over our table…

Going to Clarke's

As always, the dinner was great! Adam commented that he was “so heavy” because he ate so much (that kid can put away some shrimp!). So, now we leave Clarke’s and head back up Julington Creek…

Leaving Clarke's

It’s still early in the evening, we have a pretty good amount of daylight left and the boys aren’t quite ready to go home…

So, Mom is off to do some scrap-booking, so the boys and I decide to take the boat to the zoo.

Boys in the Boat Boys in the Boat Boys in the Boat

Heading into Jax, FEC Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge was down as a train crossed, so we decide to use the small boat span rather than wait for the bridge to be raised…

We docked at the pier and entered the zoo, and no sooner do we cross into the park than Alex makes a friend. In this case, it’s Salsa the Jaguar…

Alex and Salsa

Adam took a particular interest in these flamingos and insisted they were doing yoga…

So, after we saw the lions and tigers and bears (oh, my), we kicked-back and took a slow boat home…

This year we took to the boat for our annual family Christmas pictures. We docked on Julington Creek, set-up the camera, then set the timer…again and again. As always there’s one or two good ones in the bunch. Don’t know if these will make the final cut (that’s Cindy’s job), but you get the picture (pun intended)…

Family Boat

…and outside the boat…

Getting a good picture of the boys and Charlie is a lot like herding cats…

Family Boat

We spent about 30-minutes taking pictures. In between Cindy’s arranging the boys, the dog, and the boat, I snapped the scenery…

When the pictures were done, we headed back to the marina. The sun was getting low in the sky, so we took our time. The boys napped under the watchful eyes of their best friend…

Today, the Scout Master and I took some of the Den 1 boys (our kids) out on the river to work on one of their Tiger elective adventures: Floats and Boats. This is a great way for Tigers to learn about different types of boats and how to stay safe on the water.

And they were PUMPED!

We headed-up Julington Creek and docked the boat at a friendly dock for our “scout time”…

We had several items we wanted to check-off today and the boys were pretty well engaged. It’s fun to be outside with the boys doing something new. As part of today’s adventure, the boys…

  • Demonstrated they could correctly put on and fasten a life jacket;
  • Identified five different types of boats;
  • Learned the S-C-O-U-T water safety chant;
  • Showed how to safely help someone who needs assistance in the water, without having to enter the water; and
  • Built a boat from recycled materials to float on the water.

And with our work done, we just enjoyed the rest of the morning on the water…

Mom is off to a R+F team-building weekend, so the boys and I decide to do a little team-building on the water…

Leaving the marina

We didn’t have anything really planned today, so we headed down past Green Cove Springs and found a quiet location to stop for lunch.

Lunch on the Water

Just beautiful…

Lunch on the Water

On the way back to the marina, we encounter a sunken sailboat. The boys thought that was pretty cool…it looked like Jack Sparrow’s boat. LOL

Hard to believe, but were heading out on the water AGAIN! Today, we have Jess and Emilo and family, plus Kameran’s plus one. So, we’ll be taking out a pontoon boat…and this Sweatwater beauty means we’ll be riding in STYLE

Soon, the brood is onboard and we’re underway…

We don’t really have anything planned today. Just cruise up the St Johns into Jax and maybe we’ll spy a dolphin or two. It was great just to relax and enjoy the time together.

And of course, with all these mates, I don’t have to sit behind the wheel…

And Cindy even get’s in a little Rodan+Fields work…what a GREAT office!

Cindy Works

We docked at the Jacksonville Landing, and walked around the restaurants and shops for a bit. Since it was Sunday, a lot of them were closed. Still, it was nice to get out and stretch our legs a bit, before climbing back on board and heading up the river to see if we could see some Dolphins.

Jax Landing

Emilo took the wheel as we headed under the Main Street bridge. While the kids kept their eyes open for dolphins, I just enjoyed the sunshine.

Watching for Dolphins

And it didn’t take long before we saw a entire POD!

Dolphin Pod Dolphin Pod

We were able to get pretty close as they swam alongside the boat.

Dolphin Close

After the dolphin show, we took Jessica Lorraine to see the Jessica Lorraine

It was a great day! Everyone was a bit tired, but still wore a smile…except for those that were asleep!

Just like Ike and Tina, we’re spending another day just rollin’ on the river! After all, what else is there to do on a day like today?

Family Dad

Not much going on today in Jax. In fact, there weren’t too many boats on the water at all. It was nice to kinda have the river all to ourselves. Anyway, we took the boys to The Landing for ice cream, and otherwise just enjoyed the warm sun and the wind on our faces

Naturally, Adam had to get behind the wheel. Alex wasn’t really interested in driving the boat today, rather he wanted to to feel the rush of wind in his face as we sprinted across the water!

Today, Cindy has her “Big Business Launch” for Rodan+Fields, so she wants us out of her hair. What better way is there to accomplish this, than to spend a day on the water??

Captain Crew

It’s a beautiful day and the boys take turns driving the boat…

Coming into Jax, we see the drawbridge down to let a train cross the river, so we use the small boat span to enter The Landing…

Small Boat Span

We head-up the St Johns to the Jacksonville Landing for lunch (and some ice cream), then we walk across the Main Street Bridge to Friendship Park…

Dad and the Boys

The boys have a great time running around the park! Especially, “Super Alex”…

Super Alex

What a great day! One the way home, the boys succumb to fatigue and let the movement of the boat rock them to sleep…

There’s NO WAY Cindy had as much fun as we did!!

Today was another great day in sunny Florida! So we took the boat out for a bit this afternoon and floated leisurely up Durbin Creek. The boys were disappointed that we weren’t going to get up to “super fast” speed, but I piqued their interest when I told ’em to look out for alligators.

Looking for Alligators

Well, we didn’t spot any alligators, just a bunch of turtles. They thought that was pretty cool, too…
