Wow! It’s hard to believe that 2013 has almost come to an end. The year has gone by so quickly, it’s nice to have the opportunity to sit back and reflect on the events that shaped our year. So where to begin?
Jody completed his second masters degree (MBA) and landed a new position with Healogics that brought him home to Jacksonville for good! As you know, his previous position required him to work in Virginia and Maryland, so he maintained an apartment in Petersburg, while making trips to Jax every couple of weeks. Although we’re certainly used to family separations after a career in the USAF, it was a challenge with twin boys! We worked hard to make it as easy on Alex and Adam as we could, and phone calls and Facetime helped shorten the distance between us while Jody was away. Anyway, in the end, it was worth the effort, as we’re together in Florida, which was our ultimate goal. Sometimes it just takes a little sacrifice, ya know?
Alex and Adam turned five in December and are as rambunctious as ever. They. just. don’t. quit. and it’s exhausting trying to keep up with them sometimes. Still, they’re loads of fun and despite the fatigue and muscle aches-and-pains, they really do keep you young (in spirit, anyway). This year, the boys got to do some Florida snow sledding, enjoy trips to the beach with their
niece “big sister,” Kameran, and join a soccer league (despite the fact that Jody HATES soccer).
Milestones this year include, Alex’s first successful teeth cleaning at the dentist; kicking-off the school year at the same preschool, where Adam enjoys his first school bus ride; and Alex overcomes his fear of Santa!
This was also a year of traveling, as the boys made two trips to Disney (here and here), a trip to Sea World, a “guys only” trip to Virginia with their dad, a trip to south Florida for their cousin Colin’s Halloween birthday party, and a trip to Alabama to visit their big brothers Nick and Neil, and big sisters Jess and Kameran!
Whew! That was a lot of driving!
What else? Cindy turned the big 5-0 this year, followed by Jody just three months later. For Cindy’s 50th, she wanted to try something she’d never tried before, so Jody took her to a local Hookah bar! It was certainly something new 😉 Jody’s 50th was, as Jody’s described it, “just another day,” so he wouldn’t let anyone do anything for him (typical!)
We enjoyed multiple visits from Jody’s parents this year, as well as several visits from Jess and Kameran. In fact, at Thanksgiving, we were all able to come together! The boys had a blast with their Nana and Pop, and big sisters. It was a great holiday!
This was also a year of marriage proposals as Jessica was asked to wed, and Nick and Neil both proposed to their sweethearts. “Pop” Hanks has requested that the three coordinate their wedding dates, so he only has to make ONE trip to Alabama!
That’s about it! It’s been a great year and we’re looking forward to an even better one in 2014! We wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with happiness and prosperity!
Jody, Cindy, Alex, and Adam
