The sun did not shine
It was too wet to play
So we sat in the house
All that cold, cold wet day.
from The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss

Charlie

I can recall another day just like this when a little boy was looking out the window, wishing the rain away, and longing to go outside.

I’m up early, as usual, and everyone else is still asleep. I stepped outside with Charlie and sipping coffee, am watching the Sunrise on the mountain.

Sunrise Sunrise

I enjoy these quiet moments.

Okay, so Adam was playing soccer in the street with a neighborhood friend and a perfectly kicked ball broke the spigot off the water pipe in front of the house sending water spraying down the driveway.

Busted Pipe

What a site! Several neighbors came to help and we soon discover this pipe is in front of the water cut-off to the house, so we do a mad search for the city’s cut-off at the street. Long story short, we fond it and got the water turned-off. Honestly, I’m not sure why this pipe even had a spigot attached to it. This is the pipe from the street to the water softener, which then feeds into the house. A spigot was added as an afterthought.

Busted Pipe

Anyway, the repair was pretty simple and the pipe has been returned to it’s original (intended) state. In retrospect, I should’ve installed a cut-off, as well. I hope this doesn’t come back to bite me one day! 😛

So, mom bought the boys these litlle gaming chairs. They’re pretty cool, really, and have built-in speakers, so they don’t have to turn-up the volume on the television to annoying levels!

The verdict?

Me: Adam, do you like your new chair?

Adam: I LOVE IT!

So, the house is getting a new look. The carpet we had on the stairs and in the loft was showing the wear-and-tear associated with the constant traffic of twin boys feet.

Today Adam had a poetry reading at school…and not just any reading, either. The class was set-up like one of those coffee-houses popular with the Beat Generation in the 50’s and 60’s. Parents were invited to listen to their kids, but instead of clapping, everyone just snapped their fingers!

Adam read a couple of his poems…

Nachos

So spicy could be
crunchy and sweet
could tickle your throat
So skinny and round
taste like cheese with
my yellow dip or more
spicy with the hot red dip
Mexican food so chippy
so yummy explodes so
common
so delicious so smelly
super smooth
Nachos!

and this one about his dog, Charlie…

Dogs!

I am a dog
I have fur
My skin is gold
I have sharp teeth
BARK! BARK!
I am fast
I love water
I have a big black nose.

Lay it on me, man, I dig it!

Happy New Year

“Each new day is a blank page in the diary of your life. The secret of success is in turning that diary into the best story you possibly can. I wish you Happy New Year and a diary full of the best stories ever written in your life.”
– Laozi

You know the Stephen King movie? Alex assessed the phenomenon and determined it was “creepy” (and I’d have to agree).

The Mist

Hope this burns off, so we can spend some time in the pool before we pack-up to leave!
