I’ve been shopping for a new car for the past couple of months. My pickup has about 250,000 miles in it now and I was looking to give it a rest. However, I’m always on the lookout for a new new project car and I found just that in a little British sports car.

MGB Delivery

This 1973 MGB was delivered today from North Carolina. This was the last year of chrome bumpers for this car because in 1974, British Leyland’s U.S. exports had to meet new crash standards, which resulted in plastic bumpers and a couple more inches of clearance. That same year, they also had to meet new emissions standards, so this was also the last year the U.S. MGs arrived without catalytic converters. And it’s so pretty.

Driveway

So, what about the new car? Well, this is a new car…for me, anyway. Seriously though, it’ll allow me to give the truck a break and I get to teach Adam and Alex about vehicle mechanics. And with the money we saved, Cindy will get to buy a new car next year! Everybody wins!

I came home from work today and the boys wanted to hit the water! What a GREAT idea! The weather called for a chance of showers, so no worries there! I changed my clothes and we were off…

However, it is Florida in the Summer and a “chance of showers” can quickly change to “thunderstorm imminent”…

Thunderstorm

Anyway, it wasn’t too difficult dodging the storm. In fact, the storm actually split as it moved (much like the parting of the Red Sea) and we were able to shoot right down the middle and around the storm. We end-up taking a leisurely cruise down Black Creek before skirting the storm clouds on our way back to the marina.

Crusing

Funny. There was rain all around us, but we didn’t feel a drop!

It’s the first practice of the season and the boys are excited…Dad, too. Their team is the Cobras and they strike light lightening! (yeah, I made-up that part to eye-rolls from everyone 😉 ). The boys play in the Upward Basketball Program, which is a Christian sports league that focuses on developing athletes mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. In addition to recognizing the kids for offense and defense action on the court, they’re also recognized for their attitude in relations to effort, sportsmanship, and Christlikeness. This league is really a lot of fun!

There are a few kids on the team who haven’t played basketball before, so the coach works on fundamentals with the team. Alex and Adam are a little rusty, but pick-up quickly.

It’s been a great year, but alas, the season has come to a close. Adam was heartbroken it was over and actually shed a tear or two. He loved this team and had the best time in this league. Hell, we all did! Now, it’s the bitter-sweet trophy day. Coach John talked about each player before he presented the trophy, highlighting their strengths and contribution to the team…

But before we go, let’s take one last look at Adam at the plate. Well done, buddy! We’re very proud of you.

Baseball season is in full swing and we’re at the field 2-3 times a week for games and practice. Adam (and his coach) has discovered he’s a pretty darn good catcher, so guess who is suiting-up a couple times a game now? There aren’t too many balls that get past him either. It’s a lot of fun watching Adam rip that mask off when the ball is popped-up behind him. He’s the first kid to actually do that!

What better way to round-out a perfect weekend than to take a boat to dinner…

Going to Clarke's Going to Clarke's

This is Clarke’s Fish Camp on Julington Creek. It’s one of our favorite places to go for seafood.

Going to Clarke's

And judging from the number of boats here already, we’re not the only one’s who enjoy this secluded hideaway…

Going to Clarke's

Inside the restaurant, there’s stuffed animals EVERYWHERE! Lions, Tigers, Bears, Zebras, Apes, and this Giraffe right over our table…

Going to Clarke's

As always, the dinner was great! Adam commented that he was “so heavy” because he ate so much (that kid can put away some shrimp!). So, now we leave Clarke’s and head back up Julington Creek…

Leaving Clarke's

It’s still early in the evening, we have a pretty good amount of daylight left and the boys aren’t quite ready to go home…

Leaving Clarke's

So, …

It just doesn’t get any better than this!

So, Mom is off to do some scrap-booking, so the boys and I decide to take the boat to the zoo.

Heading into Jax, FEC Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge was down as a train crossed, so we decide to use the small boat span rather than wait for the bridge to be raised…

We docked at the pier and entered the zoo, and no sooner do we cross into the park than Alex makes a friend. In this case, it’s Salsa the Jaguar…

Alex and Salsa

Adam took a particular interest in these flamingos and insisted they were doing yoga…

Flamingos

So, after we saw the lions and tigers and bears (oh, my), we kicked-back and took a slow boat home…
