It’s been a great year, but alas, the season has come to a close. Adam was heartbroken it was over and actually shed a tear or two. He loved this team and had the best time in this league. Hell, we all did! Now, it’s the bitter-sweet trophy day. Coach John talked about each player before he presented the trophy, highlighting their strengths and contribution to the team…

But before we go, let’s take one last look at Adam at the plate. Well done, buddy! We’re very proud of you.

Baseball season is in full swing and we’re at the field 2-3 times a week for games and practice. Adam (and his coach) has discovered he’s a pretty darn good catcher, so guess who is suiting-up a couple times a game now? There aren’t too many balls that get past him either. It’s a lot of fun watching Adam rip that mask off when the ball is popped-up behind him. He’s the first kid to actually do that!

What better way to round-out a perfect weekend than to take a boat to dinner…

Going to Clarke's Going to Clarke's

This is Clarke’s Fish Camp on Julington Creek. It’s one of our favorite places to go for seafood.

Going to Clarke's

And judging from the number of boats here already, we’re not the only one’s who enjoy this secluded hideaway…

Going to Clarke's

Inside the restaurant, there’s stuffed animals EVERYWHERE! Lions, Tigers, Bears, Zebras, Apes, and this Giraffe right over our table…

Going to Clarke's

As always, the dinner was great! Adam commented that he was “so heavy” because he ate so much (that kid can put away some shrimp!). So, now we leave Clarke’s and head back up Julington Creek…

Leaving Clarke's

It’s still early in the evening, we have a pretty good amount of daylight left and the boys aren’t quite ready to go home…

So, …

It just doesn’t get any better than this!

So, Mom is off to do some scrap-booking, so the boys and I decide to take the boat to the zoo.

Heading into Jax, FEC Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge was down as a train crossed, so we decide to use the small boat span rather than wait for the bridge to be raised…

We docked at the pier and entered the zoo, and no sooner do we cross into the park than Alex makes a friend. In this case, it’s Salsa the Jaguar…

Alex and Salsa

Adam took a particular interest in these flamingos and insisted they were doing yoga…

So, after we saw the lions and tigers and bears (oh, my), we kicked-back and took a slow boat home…

Alex wanted piano lessons, so naturally we buy a piano. But, hey, it looks nice and makes us look all sophisticated and stuff.

Guest: Do you play the piano?
Me: Why yes, I imagine I do.
Guest: Would you play something for me?
Me: Certainly, but you’ll need to use your imagination to hear it.

But Alex…that’ll be a different story!

This past weekend the boys and I worked on their pinewood derby cars getting ready for the big race this coming Saturday. After a little cutting and sanding, the car bodies were ready for paint (then some more sanding, then some more paint)…

Now to add some accessories…

Finally, we’re ready for the wheels and some decals…

And tonight, we took ’em to the Pack Meeting to weigh and measure to see if we got it right!

Whenever we come to the mountains, I like to take the boys out and do some shooting. Last year, we plunked targets with my dad’s .22. Today, I thought I’d let the boys try my Walther PPK .380, which Adam calls, “James Bond’s gun”. Alex didn’t want to come out with us, so it was just me and Adam. He did very well!

The famous ‘Red Ryder’ BB gun is a lever-action air rifle first manufactured by Daisy Outdoor Products in 1938. Named after the comic strip cowboy Red Ryder it was prominently featured in the 1983 film, A Christmas Story, as the Holiday obsession of a young boy named Ralphie. Ralphie’s mom was convinced he would ‘shoot his eye out’ so she would demur every time he brought it up. Anyway, Alex and Adam now join Ralphie and a long line of little boys (and girls, I’m sure) that claim ownership of this historic piece of Americana.

This afternoon, we hiked into the woods and set-up a couple of targets. After learning how to properly load and fire the rifle and taking the proper safety precautions, we’re ready…
