April 2011

You are currently browsing the monthly archive for April 2011.

Today was wet and rainy, which seems to be fast becoming the norm. Still, that didn’t put a damper on the fun we had at the neighborhood Easter egg hunt. The boys, dressed in their snappy Easter clothes, joined many of the other neighborhood kids for a story about the meaning of Easter and then enjoyed their very first egg hunt.

They really seemed to like the story: the book was called My Easter Basket: And the True Story of Easter” by Mary Manx Simon, and uses the colors commonly found in an Easter basket to tell Jesus’ story, like the green palm leaves, purple wine, red blood, and brown cave. Anyway, after the story, the kids and parents migrated to the patio for a egg hunt. Our hosts have a huge back yard, but due to the dampness, we were unable to take advantage of it, confining the activity to the porch and patio:

Adam took to “the hunt” right away, and was quickly filling up his basket with Easter eggs…

Alex was not very interested at first, choosing instead to play with a soccer ball, but soon spied an egg perched atop the railing and the hunt was on…

After the kids filled their baskets (and Adam discovered the eggs were filled with candy!), we moved back into the house for coffee and conversation while the kids played and snacked.

This afternoon, we ventured into Philly for this Cars 2 event sponsored by State Farm Insurance. Basically, the boys could have their pictures taken with three of the characters from the new Disney/Pixar film Cars 2: Lightening McQueen, Tow Mater, and Finn McMissile. The characters were on display in the parking lot of Citizen’s Bank Park, the home of the Phillies, and as luck would have it, the Phils were playing the Marlins. Unfortunately, the game was sold out, and though we gave it a try, there were just no tickets to be had…

Oh, yeah, the boys did get their pictures taken with Lightening McQueen and the gang…

But according to the web page where I am to retrieve the pictures, they haven’t been “processed” yet (which takes 48-hours). So stay tuned…

UPDATE (2/19): It’s been 48-hours and the “process” is complete. Here’s one of the pictures: This is us with the new Cars character, “Finn McMissile” (a British Mi6 agent played by Michael Caine):

Sun Drop Logo Okay, so here’s the story: The year was 1949. On a sunny day, a soft drink loving man named Charles Lazier was cruising around town in the family car, noodling over his lifelong dream to make the ultimate citrus soda. We’re not sure why he was dreaming of citrus soda, but why ask why?

In a sudden burst of genius, the formula for a revolutionary thirst quenching, authentic taste sensation came to him. He scribbled it down and gave it to his son Charles Jr. (a.k.a Charles Numero Dos, Charlie Two-Times, Charles Double Dutch) who would go on to create the one, the only, the Sun Drop.

Sun Drop was launched regionally in 1951, and developed a passionate following, creating generations of deeply loyal Sun Drop drinkers who knew a good thing when they drank it. As time went on, flavors were added, the fan base grew and the secret of this indescribably delicious beverage could no longer be contained.

At long last, the days of smuggling Sun Drop across state lines are over. 2011 marks the year that Sun Drop will be available nationwide. So clear some space in your fridge, it’s time to Get Dropped.

And we have! Cindy surprised me with four bottles of Sun Drop from her trip to the store this afternoon! Sun Drop has come to PA!!

( I hope it stays )

Alex and Dad It’s been a l-o-n-g week, and I come home, change into my sweatshirt and shorts, grab a beer out of the fridge, and sit down in the rocker to watch the news.

No sooner do I sit down when Alex, the little monkey-man, comes charging across the room and practically leaps into my lap! He then wiggles into a position that looks very similar to mine, places his little had around my beer bottle, and turns his eyes to the television and Special Report with Bret Baier

what a funny little kid…

I recently visited the Bass Pro Shop in Prattville, Alabama. Naturally, I bought a hat…not just one for me, I also picked-up a couple for the boys, and they really liked them!
